10-over cricket tournament for physically challenged

Six physically challenged teams will take part in a two-day inter-zonal 10-over cricket tournament for the LIC Trophy to mark the silver jubilee of the All India Cricket Association for the Physically Challenged (AICAPC).

Players with excess of 40 per cent disability and as per the norms of the World Health Organisation (WHO) will be seen in action.
The teams have been named after the main sponsors LIC, SBI, ONGC, GIC, NIA and CBI. The other sponsors are HDFC and BOI. The total prize money is Rs. 3 lakh.
“The BCCI had organised a grand welcome for the Indian team in Bombay after a historic series win in England in 1971. The motorcade was stopped at Haji Ali and we were garlanded by the physically challenged. They were crazy about the game and they asked me if they could play cricket.
“From that day I have been associated with the physically challenged. We formed the association AICAPC in 1988 and I am its president now,’’ said Ajit Wadekar, former India captain at a press conference here on Friday.
The winner will receive Rs. 50,000, runner-up Rs. 25,000, Man-of-the-series Rs. 15,000 and Man-of-the-match of the 16 matches each Rs. 10,000. The tournament will be inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.
