How to request a correction

Use the Contact page and provide the article headline or URL, the exact statement you believe is inaccurate, an explanation of the issue and a reliable supporting source.


How requests are reviewed

We compare the request with the original sources, relevant official information and any credible newer evidence. We may seek additional clarification when needed.


How corrections appear

If a material error is confirmed, the article will be corrected and a note will normally explain what was changed and when. If later information changes the understanding of an event, we may add an update while retaining the original publication date. Minor spelling, grammar, punctuation or formatting changes may be made without a correction note when they do not alter meaning.


Archives

Older news articles reflect what was known at the time of publication. When an archived article requires important present-day context, we may add an editor's update without disguising or replacing its original publication date.

Santiniketan Added to UNESCO World Heritage List in 2023

Santiniketan in West Bengal was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on 17 September 2023 during the extended 45th session of the World Heritage Committee in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. UNESCO described it as India’s 41st World Heritage Site at the time of inscription. The site is closely associated with poet, philosopher and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. It developed from an ashram established by Tagore’s father, Debendranath Tagore, and later became the setting for Rabindranath Tagore’s experimental school and Visva-Bharati. Why Santiniketan is significant Santiniketan brought together education, art, architecture, landscape and ideas about international cultural exchange. Tagore sought an alternative to conventional colonial education, with learning connected to nature and with greater contact between Indian and global traditions. Sacred Ensembles of the Hoysalas Added to UNESCO World Heritage List

The Sacred Ensembles of the Hoysalas in Karnataka were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on 18 September 2023. The decision was taken during the extended 45th session of the World Heritage Committee in Riyadh, making the property India’s 42nd World Heritage Site at that time. What the UNESCO property includes The serial property brings together three major Hoysala temple complexes: the Chennakeshava Temple at Belur, the Hoysaleswara Temple at Halebidu and the Keshava Temple at Somanathapura. They date mainly from the 12th and 13th centuries and represent the most distinctive surviving examples of Hoysala sacred architecture. The temples are known for their star-shaped plans, detailed stone carving, sculptural bands and carefully integrated architecture.
