'Telcos need to obtain Unified Licence, buy spectrum to continue services'


NEW DELHI: Telecom companies seeking 'extension' of their permits would have to obtain Unified Licence and buy spectrum separately to continue their operations in respective circles.
"Today the regime has changed ... licences and spectrum are two separate things. Previously, the spectrum was with the licence at cost of Rs 1,658 crore. The licence can continue but spectrum on terms of Supreme Courtjudgement you have to buy," Telecom Minister Kapil Sibalsaid when asked about the extension of licences sought by Vodafone, Bharti Airtel and Loop Mobiles for certain circles.

India’s April–August 2026 Fiscal Accounts: What the Deficit Numbers Really Show

New Delhi, 1 October 2026. The Union government released its accounts for April to August 2026 on 30 September. Receipts had reached ₹13,67,709 crore, while spending was ₹20,77,958 crore. The difference shows why the monthly accounts matter, but it cannot by itself predict the full-year fiscal deficit. These are cumulative figures for the first five months of the 2026–27 financial year, not a final annual balance. Key points Receipts through August were 37.5% of the annual budget estimate. Expenditure was 38.9% of its annual budget estimate. Capital expenditure stood at ₹5,09,949 crore, while revenue expenditure was ₹15,68,009 crore. What the accounts show The Finance Ministry's monthly review breaks the ₹13,67,709 crore in receipts into ₹8,37,921 crore of net tax revenue, ₹4,54,549 crore of non-tax revenue and ₹75,239 crore of non-debt capital receipts.
