Kamala Harris says 'ready to assume Presidency' if Biden unable to complete term

 Kamala Harris, upon being asked about President Joe Biden's age, affirmed her readiness to assume the presidency if necessary, emphasising that every vice president must be prepared for that responsibility.

US Vice President Kamala Harris has said she is prepared to "take over as the President" if Joe Biden is unable to complete his term in office. Upon being asked about her readiness for the Oval Office, Kamala Harris, during an overseas trip, said stepping in as the President if and when necessary was an important part of her job.

Harris's response came after she initially tried to deflect a question about the 80-year-old Biden's age by pointing to his legislative accomplishments.

New Delhi, 1 October 2026. The Union government released its accounts for April to August 2026 on 30 September. Receipts had reached ₹13,67,709 crore, while spending was ₹20,77,958 crore. The difference shows why the monthly accounts matter, but it cannot by itself predict the full-year fiscal deficit. These are cumulative figures for the first five months of the 2026–27 financial year, not a final annual balance. Key points Receipts through August were 37.5% of the annual budget estimate. Expenditure was 38.9% of its annual budget estimate. Capital expenditure stood at ₹5,09,949 crore, while revenue expenditure was ₹15,68,009 crore.
