Homecoming for Sunita space lady tells kids

For the world she is an astronaut who has walked in space but for the people of Jhulasan in Gujarat, she is the daughter of the village. Joyous crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of their hero.
The people of Jhulasan are proud of Sunita Williams and her achievements.
Sunita visited the village temple of Dola Mata,  with members of her family  including her father D K Pandya and offered prayers. A huge crowd had already gathered since morning to see her. For the people of Jhulasan, Sunita is a role model.

The temple visit was followed by folk dance performances by the village girls including the traditional garba.

The last time Sunita visited India in 1998, she was unable to visit Jhulasan, about 50 km from here.

She told schoolchildren “From space, India looks red, green and purple. You cannot see any boundaries from the spacecraft. They only exist in our minds.’’ Sunita wearing a traditional saree,  admitted that she would love to return to space the third time.

To build a connect with the villagers, she greeted the residents with the traditional “Kem cho”, (How are you).
